Assistant Secretary of State meets with a delegation from the US Congress

Her Excellency Mrs. Lolwa bint Rashid Al Khater, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met today with a delegation of members of Congress in the friendly United States of America, in the presence of Her Excellency Ms. Natalie Baker, Chargé d'Affairs of the United States Embassy in the country. The meeting reviewed the relations of cooperation between the two countries, and the latest developments in the Afghan file. The meeting dealt with the efforts of the State of Qatar in Afghanistan and the assistance it provides to the Afghan people in cooperation with relief and humanitarian organizations, in addition to emphasizing the continuation of cooperation between the two countries in the Afghan file. The US congressional delegation thanked the State of Qatar for its efforts and contributions to the evacuation and safe passage of Americans and holders of US residency from Afghanistan.


In press statements, the US Chargé d'Affairs said that Qatar has made great progress in combating human trafficking

The Chargé d'Affairs of the United States Embassy, Natalie Baker, said that the State of Qatar has made great progress in combating human trafficking, noting the establishment of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking in 2017, and a unit specialized in trafficking crimes, and in a press statement, she referred to US President Joe Biden's announcement on December 30, 2021 to designate January 2022 as a national awareness month to prevent and combat human trafficking. Her Excellency continued, "Around 24.9 million people are exposed to some form of human trafficking around the world, including in the United States, and the impact of the Corona pandemic continues to make millions more vulnerable to exploitation by human traffickers." Her Excellency explained that since 2010, every US president has designated January as a national month for awareness of combating human trafficking in accordance with a presidential declaration, stressing that US embassies and consulates in various countries of the world have an important role in raising awareness about human trafficking patterns and ways to identify and address this crime.

Doha plays an effective role in addressing the Corona pandemic in the world

As an extension of its commitment to stand with friendly and brotherly countries affected by the Corona epidemic and to secure medical relief supplies to confront the repercussions of the virus, and to provide health support to peoples in the affected countries, the State of Qatar continues its usual humanitarian support and extending a helping hand since the beginning of the pandemic, committed to the principle of the necessity of equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines for all peoples without exception. As part of its continuous efforts to secure access to vaccines, treatments and diagnostic tools for all people around the world, the State of Qatar, represented by the Qatar Fund for Development, provided financial support yesterday, including an aid package to support the Republic of the Philippines, with the aim of providing 50,000 doses of the Sinovac anti-Coronavirus vaccine. His Excellency Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari, Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development, said that this support is an affirmation of the effective role of the State of Qatar and its efforts to combat the outbreak of the epidemic, which represents a common threat facing the whole world, and based on the common international responsibility. Proceeding from its moral and humanitarian commitment to the necessity of equitable management of Covid-19 vaccines around the world, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, called on, during the Qatar Economic Forum last year, world leaders to cooperate for a just and comprehensive distribution of vaccines. This platform invites the leaders of the world's countries, especially the major industrialized countries, for more cooperation within the framework of the international system, sharing responsibilities, and working together for a just and comprehensive distribution of the vaccine in a way that establishes for us to build an integrated global social and economic system, in line with the goals of sustainable global development, and achieves good and stability for our peoples.” Earlier, the State of Qatar allocated a contribution of a total of $20 million to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, which aims to reach the vaccine in a fair and equal manner to more than 92 countries in need of development assistance.


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Holds Phone Call with US State Secretary

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani held Monday a phone call with HE Secretary of State of the United States of America Antony Blinken. During the phone call, the two sides reviewed the strategic bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, and ways of developing them in various fields. The phone call also touched on with the latest security and political developments in the Afghan file, the nuclear talks, as well as the most important developments in the regional and international arenas.


Qatar Participates in Special Envoys Meeting with Afghan Caretaker Government

The special envoys of the European Union, the United States of America and the State of Qatar held a meeting with the Afghan caretaker government, in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, on the political, security, humanitarian and economic situation in Afghanistan. The delegation of the State of Qatar to the meeting was headed HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani. On the sidelines of the meeting, HE Al Qahtani also met separately with HE Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Afghan Caretaker Government Amir Khan Muttaqi and the US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West to discuss matters of common interest.


ILO Selects Qatar As Member of Fair Recruitment Initiative Advisory Committee

The International Labor Organization (ILO) has chosen the State of Qatar as a member of the Advisory Committee of the ILO's Fair Recruitment Initiative, among five governments, in appreciation of its efforts and reforms undertaken in the labor sector and the clear distinction it has achieved in the field of workers' rights. The selection of the State of Qatar as a member of the committee reflected its tangible progress in promoting fair employment in line with the ILO principles. It also demonstrates the commitment of Qatar to labor migration and fair recruitment through a human rights-based approach. The ILO Fair Recruitment Initiative Advisory Committee will work to guide the activities of the ILO Fair Recruitment Initiative, identifying priority issues in line with the organization's 2020-2025 strategy. The committee will also monitor the implementation of the Fair Employment Initiative, discussing progress towards the set goals, providing strategic direction, and proposing alternative measures to overcome challenges. The committee will also provide the necessary guidance to establish a "knowledge center" for the ILO, propose ideas and projects to promote discussion of key issues, and hold periodic meetings as needed. On Wednesday, the committee held its first meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, with the participation of Mahmood Al Siddiqi, representative of the Ministry of Labor at the ILO. (QNA) ​


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs: Qatar Encourages Youth Participation in Peace, Decision-Making Processes

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani affirmed that the State of Qatar is working to encourage youth participation in all stages of peace paths, including decision-making. This came in the inaugural speech of the State of Qatar, delivered today by His Excellency before the High-Level Global Conference on Youth-Inclusive Peace Processes, which is held virtually from January 19-21. HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed happiness at opening the conference, which is co-hosted by the State of Qatar, Colombia, Finland, and the United Nations, and is co-organized by the Office of the Secretary Generals Envoy on Youth (OSGEY), the Education Above All (EAA), and Search for Common Ground (SFCG), in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA/PBSO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY). HE the Foreign Minister praised the pioneering vision and advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation, stressing that Her Highness has been working tirelessly to promote youth empowerment in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. His Excellency also noted the EAA's effective role in this regard. He pointed out that the State of Qatar is working to encourage youth participation in all stages of peace paths, including decision-making, noting that the Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Sports and Youth has been directed to formulate the first national strategy for youth in Qatar.


Qatari Plane Carrying Humanitarian Aid Arrives in Kabul

A Qatari plane carrying humanitarian aid provided by Qatar Charity has arrived at Kabul International Airport in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as part of the humanitarian air bridge from the State of Qatar to support the Afghan people. The shipment contained 22 tons of food and winter supplies. The Qatari response aims to provide the urgent necessary needs of the Afghan people to face the winter season. ​
