Citizen Services

The Consulate General of the State of Qatar in New York provides the services of renewing passports (re-issuing, replacement of lost and damaged passports) for Qatari citizens residing in the United States for the purpose of study, medical treatment and long term courses.

 

:Requirements

  • Applicant must come in person to apply and receive the new passport, or send the required information by mail if he/she does not reside in New York City.
  • Submit a written request to the Head of Mission asking for the issuing of a new passport, signed by the applicant.
  • To fill in the application form for a new passport. The form maybe found on the Consulate’s website, or by visiting the Consulate General of the State of Qatar in New York.
  • The application has to be accompanied by either the old original passport, or the police report on the lost passport.
  • Copy of the ID or the passport.
  • Two recent photographs (3.5 X 4.8) with grey background, without glasses or, colored lenses; wearing the national costume for men, and the hijab for women. Photographs processed electronically are not accepted.
  • The sum of US$ 28.00 for re-validating passports, and US$ 110.00 for a new passport or a duplicate of a lost or damaged passports.

 

The Consulate General of the State of Qatar in New York issues pass tickets to Qatari Citizens in the event of losing or damaging their Qatari passport, which requires a period of 3-5 business days in order to obtain the approval of the relevant authorities in the State of Qatar. The pass ticket is valid for three months from the date of issue, and is only valid for one journey to the State of Qatar. 

:Requirements

  • Applicant must come in person, or send the required information by mail.

  • Submit a written request attached to the Head of Mission asking for a pass ticket to return to the State of Qatar, signed by the applicant, or by one of the parents if the applicant is a child.
  • Two personal photos.
  • Photocopy of the passport, or of the Identity card in the event of a lost passport.
  • The fee for a pass ticket is US$ 14.00.

In the event of newly born babies in the U.S.A, parents are required to submit a request to issue a pass ticket for the newly born baby to enter the State of Qatar.

:Requirements

  • Submit a written request attached to the Head of Mission asking for a pass ticket signed by one of the parents.
  • Original birth certificate issued by the hospital.
  • Personal photos of the baby.
  • Money order of the sum of US$ 14.00 made to the Consulate General of the State of Qatar.
  • Money order of the sum of US$ 27.00 made to the Consulate General of the State of Qatar (fees of certifying the birth certificate).
  • Copies of both parents’ passports.
  • Copy of the original marriage certificate.
  • Copy of the approval of the Qatari Ministry of Interiors if the spouse is foreigner.

Upon arrival to the State of Qatar, you have to refer to the Qatari Ministry of Interiors to obtain a new passport

 

The Consulate General of the State of Qatar in New York certifies the private (specified) and general power of attorneys issued and certified by the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs for Qatari citizens. The Consulate also issues power of attorneys for Qatari citizens residing in the United States. The Consulate certifies all official power of attorneys issued by the Consulate, and does not certify any other “model” of power of attorneys previously prepared. The form must be filled in the Consulate, and signed by the person who made it, and before the Consular Official, in order to ensure that he/she is in the right state of mind, and he has to bring a copy of his passport, or his ID together with the sum of US$ 28.00 as fees for the power of attorney.

 

The Consulate issues letter of “To Whom It May Concern” to Qatari citizens in the event of running away servants and staff accompanying them. The sponsor has to inform the Consulate of any incident, and must submit the Police report to the Consulate in order to issue the required letter to submit to the relevant authorities in the State of Qatar to clear any responsibility related to the mentioned staff members and/or servants. The Qatari citizen has to submit a request to the Head of Mission asking for the issuing of a “To Whom It May Concern” letter, stating the purpose of their stay in the United States, and pay the sum of US $27.00

Transporting dead bodies of Qatari citizens back to the State of Qatar. Deceased Qatari citizens in the United States of America are transported back to Qatar according to the following Procedures:

  • Relative of the deceased should notify the Consulate General of the State of Qatar on the death of the citizen.
  • A copy of the passport.
  • A copy of the death certificate.
  • A copy of the post-mortem report (and any other documents).
  • Copy of permit to transport human remains.
  • Copy of Doctor’s Report certifying that the cause of the death is not epidemic or contagious diseaseز
  • Copy affidavit of embalming.

The Service is to provide an official visa for official delegations, the ministry of foreign affairs, and officials from ministries, governmental authorities and institutions, or to attend conferences held by ministries, authorities or institutions, this visa is issued as a “courtesy gratis visa”.

Requirements:

  • To fill the visa application form for each individual in a clear and complete data, please download the entry visa application form from website.
  • Passport must be valid for at least six months.
  • Two (2) photos size 2"x2" of the applicant.
  • Letter from the employer addressed to the consulate General of the State of Qatar explaining the purpose of the visit.

Attestation

Legal and commercial documents issued in the United States of America legalized at the Consulate General of the State of Qatar, New York.

The legalization of legal and commercial documents takes up to five business days from the day of receipt. Please make sure that your name and address appear on both the sender and the recipient fields of the prepaid airway bill (not regular mail). All Applications must be submitted in full. Incomplete applications or missing documents will be returned immediately. The Consulate General of the State of Qatar, New York does not offer any express or expedited services. There are no additional fees for any application.

The Consulate is not responsible for any application or document that is lost/stolen or late in transit.

Requirements for the legalization of Educational Document

The Qatar consulate requests the following for educational documents:

  • The educational institutions must be located in the US. 
  • We legalize Original university degree (Diploma) and original transcript. The documents must be authenticated separately by the US Department of the States.
  • The Student may have attended several higher academic institutions for the specific degree itself, in this case, he/she must provide transcripts of each educational institution ( transfer credits)  and authenticated by the US Department of the States (with the exception of the academic institution ( transfer credits)  where he/she completed less than 15 hours or equivalent, limited to two institutions only)
  • The charge fee is $27. Payable to the Qatar Consulate by money order or cashier check.
  • Please provide one extra copy of each original document you send.

Fees for attestation of any document which is not listed above shall be $27, except for death certificate and converting to Islam certificate, both of which  are exempted from fees payment.

Foreigners in Qatar

The "Certificate of Good Conduct" is available only for people who have lived in Qatar and are trying to prove they have been in good conduct while there (no unlawful acts).

  • The processing time for the certificate of good conduct is normally from 6 to 8 weeks and sometimes more
  • Must have the fingerprints from the Police department; if you reside in the State of Qatar after 2012, you do not need to bring fingerprints form the police department.
  • Notarized by the Notary Public (County, City)
  • Authenticated by the Secretary of State (State, Province)
  • Authenticated by the State Department Authentication Division in Washington D.C. (Tel: 202-647-5002)
  • Letter addressed to the Consulate General explaining the purpose of requesting the good conduct certificate. Also specify the time frame (from xx to xx) in which you stayed in Qatar, and the working place and sponsor
  • Two (2) photocopies of the passport that have the residency stamp and two photo copies of the new passport if any
  • Four (4) color passport-size photographs 2" x 2"
  • Two (2) Money orders or company checks in the amount of $27.00 per document payable to the Consulate General of the State of Qatar, New York and withdrawn in US currency from a US bank
  • An amount of $30.00 cash is required for the issuance of the certificate in Qatar.
  • Please provide two (2) extra copies of each original document you send.
  • Please make sure that your name and address appear on both the sender and the recipient fields of the prepaid airway bill (not regular mail)
  • Please provide your email address for follow-up.
  • For those who reside in the State of Qatar after 2012 if the authority doesn’t have your fingerprints we will ask you to provide the fingerprints from the police department (these are rare cases)
