Le Monde: Qatar gave the Afghan refugees Park View facilities before the World Cup fans

Her Excellency Mrs. Lolwa bint Rashid Al-Khater, Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that there is a de-facto government in Kabul and agreements must be reached to prevent the collapse of the country, which would be catastrophic for everyone. Her Excellency highlighted that dealing with the government does not mean recognizing the regime, and that providing humanitarian assistance does not mean sacrificing human rights. The French Le Monde report said: In Qatar, Park View Villas, a newly built residential property on the outskirts of Doha, was scheduled to open during the 2022 World Cup. But the Taliban's entry into Kabul in mid-August hastened their use. Instead of being opened by football fans or FIFA staff at the World Cup opening in November next year, the venue was opened at the end of August by Afghan refugees. Le Monde explained that the residence is among the sites that have been used to house those who fled Kabul and were flown on board Qatar Airways, the only airline flying to Afghanistan. Thousands of evacuees have passed through Doha in recent weeks, and nearly 400 people are now living in Doha awaiting a visa that would allow them to resettle in a third country, the United States, Germany or elsewhere. The four-star residence consists of about a hundred units of a uniform design, linked by tree-lined paths, handball and basketball courts and a theater hall, the place resembles a holiday village. Accommodation is fully funded by the Doha authorities, from breakfast to diapers, including psychotherapy sessions and drawing lessons. The report continued: Doha is doing good humanitarian work and, as usual, playing the role of charitable mediator, as it has contributed to the evacuation of between 60,000 Afghans who have passed through its territory since August 15. Most of them are the Afghan elite. Artists, athletes, and former government executives are all torn between comfort and fear of an uncertain future. “Half of my body is here in Qatar and the other half in Afghanistan,” Khatereh, a former Finance Ministry employee, laments.
