Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister: Qatar stresses the importance of women's vital role in Afghanistan's development

The State of Qatar participated in the ministerial meeting, held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly on safeguarding the achievements of 20 years of international engagement in Afghanistan to discuss support for Afghan women and girls and their access to education. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani represented the State of Qatar at the meeting. In a speech he gave at the meeting, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed pleasure for participating in the meeting held virtually at the ministerial level on safeguarding the achievements of 20 years of international engagement in Afghanistan with a special emphasis on the continued support for the future of Afghan women and girls and their access to education. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the State of Qatar encourages the transitional government and Afghan leaders to form a more inclusive government that represents everyone. His Excellency added that the State of Qatar conveyed the importance of respecting women's rights and the vital role of Afghan women in the development of Afghanistan, adding that Qatar also invited the current government to follow the lead of many Islamic countries, including the State of Qatar, where women fully and constructively exercise their rights, and represent the largest segment of the workforce in the country, as women’s enrollment in higher education exceeds the number of men. His Excellency pointed out that the State of Qatar, out of its sense of humanitarian duty, rushed to help evacuate more than 58,000 people from Kabul to Qatar, and provided them with temporary housing, meals and health care, as well as providing vaccines for the emerging coronavirus, for those who need it. Among the evacuees are families, NGOs staff, journalists, athletes, children, and many Afghan women who feel they are in danger, His Excellency said. His Excellency said that all members of the "Afghan Dreamers", an all-girls robotics team from the Afghan city of Herat, between the ages of 15 and 19, were safely evacuated to Qatar. His Excellency added that they received scholarships from Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) and Qatar Fund for Development to continue their education in QF universities, Sheikh Mohammed explained saying this reflects Qatar’s deep commitment to ensuring that children of all ages should enjoy the right to education. His Excellency stressed that Qatar's efforts reflect the country's commitment to the people of Afghanistan and their right to dignity and safety, adding that it will spare no effort in supporting them and working in close cooperation and coordination with its Afghan and international partners and with the United Nations.


Experts, analysts and businessmen: His Highness's speech is based on the human values of Qatari politics

Many experts and analysts praised the content of the speech of his Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, at the opening session of the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, stressing that the follower of His Highness' speeches on many occasions, finds them wise and based on the values on which the State of Qatar was founded through its tolerant human principles. They added to the Al-Sharq newspaper, that His Highness has focused in all his speeches on the Palestinian issue, which is the main concern of our Arab and Islamic nation, and his assertion that there is an international consensus on the fairness of the Palestinian cause despite the inability of the international community in the face of the intransigence of the Israeli entity and its continued occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories and the continued expansion of the settlement policy. He called for the international community to take responsibility for achieving a comprehensive and just peace settlement of the Palestinian cause by establishing a Palestinian State on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. His Highness had been keen to remind the international community of the response to the Corona epidemic and its negative and unprecedented repercussions in various aspects on the humans’ lives and the countries’ economies, as well as, stressed on the importance of integrating the indispensable role of the State within its borders on one hand, and its role in addressing cross-border issues and common commitments to meet challenges, crises and disasters on the other hand, and also the need for equitable distribution of vaccines, and ensuring their access to the Countries of the South, and ensuring treatment for all. ​


World leaders speak at United Nations General Assembly

Several days of speeches from heads of state and government are set to begin on Tuesday as the General Debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly is set to kick off. Climate change, COVID-19 and security are set to dominate discussion during the annual gathering, which has a hybrid format after being forced almost entirely online last year. HH The Amir Receives British Prime Minister

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received today HE the Prime Minister of the friendly United Kingdom, Mr. Boris Johnson and his accompanying delegation at the Headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, on the sidelines of the seventy sixth session the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the meeting, they reviewed relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries and aspects of developing them in all fields, in addition to discussion of the most prominent regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly developments of the situation in Afghanistan. The British Prime Minister expressed thanks and appreciation of the United Kingdom for the efforts the State of Qatar has made to evacuate British nationals from Afghanistan and its support of the Afghani peace process. HH The Amir Receives Kuwaiti Prime Minister

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received this evening the representative of HH the Amir of the sisterly State of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah and his accompanying delegation at the Headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, on the sidelines of the seventy-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. At the outset of the meeting, HH the Kuwaiti Prime Minister conveyed greetings of HH the Amir of the sisterly State of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and Crown Prince HH Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to HH The Amir, wishing him best of health and happiness and the Qatari people further progress and prosperity. For his part, HH The Amir entrusted HH Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah with his greetings and wishes of best of health to his brother the Amir of Kuwait and the Crown Prince and further development and progress to the brotherly Kuwaiti people. During the meeting they reviewed the close relations between the two countries and means of supporting and enhancing them for the good of the two countries and their brotherly peoples. Qatar Participates in Opening Ceremony of "Turkish House" in New York

The State of Qatar took part in the opening ceremony of the "Turkish House" in New York, which was inaugurated by HE President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The floor of Lucille Stadium, the largest stadium of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is furnished

The High Commission for Projects and Legacy has announced the completion of grass brushes at Lucille Stadium, the eight largest stadiums of next year's FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which will accommodate 80,000 fans and will host the final of the tournament. In a video posted on the website of the World Cup Organizing Committee, it was announced that work has so far been completed in 5 of the World Cup stadiums, namely the renovated Khalifa International Stadium, The South Stadium, The Educational City Stadium, Ahmed Ben Ali Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium.


Qatar Participates in LDCs Ministerial Meeting

The State of Qatar participated in the virtual Ministerial Meeting of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The State of Qatar was represented in the meeting by H.E. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi. In the State of Qatar's speech at the meeting, H.E. the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that the current exceptional circumstances and the continuing repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic have prevented - for the second year in a row - from actually attending meetings, adding that this requires continuous cooperation to confront the negative and dangerous repercussions of the pandemic that threatens to undermine decades of development gains. H.E. said that despite the enormity of these challenges and the magnitude of their effects, the State of Qatar is proud to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), scheduled to take place from Jan. 23 to 27, 2022. His Excellency noted that the State of Qatar has spared no effort to move forward the preparatory process for this conference, in order to achieve its desired goals and work within a well-studied plan to ensure its success and the safety of all participants. H.E. appreciated the cooperation and coordination between the State of Qatar and the presidency of the Group of LDCs, and the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries in this regard.


Qatar Partakes in Meeting of 149th Session of GCC Ministerial Council

The State of Qatar participated on Thursday in the 149th session of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh. HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi headed the delegation of the State of Qatar to the meeting.
