Doha, December 7 (QNA) – Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced that the total number of passengers on the Doha Metro network since the start of operations in 2019 has surpassed 200 million.
In a statement, the company noted that the metro service achieved a service reliability rate of 99.85%, an on-time performance rate of 99.64%, and a service availability rate of 99.99%.
The metro network connects most key destinations, event areas, and tourist landmarks, including Hamad International Airport. Qatar Rail continues to receive cooperation and support from partners at the Ministry of Transport and Mowasalat (Karwa) in enhancing integrated transport solutions, such as the "Metrolink" bus service, the "MetroExpress" service, and "Park & Ride" facilities.
The Metrolink service network has expanded to cover 61 routes serving 30 metro stations, compared to just 13 routes in May 2019. The MetroExpress service now covers 10 metro stations and 12 tram stations, up from only two metro stations when the service launched in July 2019.
Over the past five years, Doha Metro has proven to be a cornerstone in the success of hosting and organizing more than 20 local, regional, and international sporting events and championships in Qatar. These include the Amir Cup finals, the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, among other major events. During these occasions, Qatar Rail implemented special operational plans to serve event attendees and ensure passenger safety.
