London, December 01 (QNA) - For the second time in a row, the State of Qatar was reelected to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council under Category C. The reelection, for 2024-2025 Biennium, was held today during the 33rd Session of the IMO Assembly held at the IMO Headquarters in London.

Qatar was able to uphold its position to the Council as Member States praised the country's endeavors to enhance the performance of the global maritime system and global maritime trade.

On this occasion, HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said that reelecting Qatar to the IMO Council affirms the country's position and the appreciation it receives at the international platforms and organizations, and also reflects Member States' faith in the work Qatar does to enhance maritime navigation's safety and security and protect the marine environment.

HE the Minister voiced his appreciation to brotherly and friendly Member States that backed Qatar's candidature for reelection for the second time. He also praised the big efforts made by the work team to achieve that success, which truly reflected such a high level of cooperation between government and private sectors to raise the name of Qatar at international fora.

He added that Qatar's continuing to be present at the IMO Council will help enhance the efforts that aim at developing global legislature and laws on maritime navigation in a way that supports the growth of world trade and makes Qatar one of the maritime decisionmakers.

HE the Minister stressed that Qatar would continue all efforts that support IMO's plans and programs to achieve its objectives and principles, in addition to continuing to carry out numerous national projects to keep pace with all developments in maritime transportation and shipping industry, which is one of the world's most advanced industries.

Qatar performed well and achieved high results alongside the 40 Member States of the IMO Council thanks to its critical role in developing the strategies and policies that improve maritime safety standards, protect the marine environment, and boost the maritime industry's efficiency worldwide. (QNA)
