 Al-Wajba Fort is a landmark in the history of Qatar, as it is linked to the battle of Al-Wajba, which constituted a turning point in the modern history of the State of Qatar, and contributed to building its active character at the regional and international levels.

Al-Wajba Castle, which is located in the city of Al-Rayyan, 15 kilometers west of the city of Doha, has a distinguished historical status, and its construction dates back to 1882 AD, and it is distinguished by its tall towers and thick walls, in addition to the beautiful nature that surrounds it. It is rich in weeds that cover its land most of the days of the year. It was also distinguished by the presence of three wells with a depth of seven fathoms and was characterized by fresh water.

Al-Wajba Castle has now become a tourist attraction in Qatar, where fans of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 can visit it and enjoy the historical monuments and learn about all forms of folklore in them, in addition to watching and discovering the wonderful Qatari architecture, especially the ancient art whose effects are clearly visible in the ruins of the castle and its ruins that dates back to that time period.

The importance of Al-Wajba Castle is due to the battle that took place on March 25, 1893 AD, as it was the scene of heroic events testifying to the pride of the ancestors, and ended with the victory of the Qatari forces led by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, “may God rest his soul in peace”, the founder of the modern state of Qatar, over the Ottoman forces led by The governor of Basra, Muhammad Hafez Pasha.

The importance of the castle is also due to its being the residence of Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani, who is the second son of the ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, may God have mercy on him, in different periods.

The castle contains rooms on the ground floor and the upper floor, and it has four watch towers, and it has been restored to its original condition after many restorations.

Al-Wajba Castle takes a rectangular shape, and its side length from north to south is 34 meters and from east to west is 19 meters, and it has four towers, two rectangular and two circular in each of the northwest and southeast corners, and pointed balconies adorn the two circular towers, while the other two towers They do not have balconies.

The castle was also distinguished by its high walls, and its walls are distinguished by the presence of straight gutters integrated into the wall to drain rain water.

The castle consists of nineteen rooms on the ground level, in addition to the upper rooms of the four towers. It also includes a council on the northern side, as well as many buildings and rooms that were built inside and outside its walls.

Maintenance and restoration work has been carried out on the historic castle, in preparation for its use as a military museum, a center for handicrafts, or otherwise.
