Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums inaugurates the exhibition "Discover the Island" at the Fire Station

Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums Board of Trustees, inaugurated this evening the exhibition “Discover the Island” at the Garage Gallery at the Fire Station: Artists’ Residence, in the presence of a number of dignitaries and media professionals.

The exhibition, which runs until March 25, celebrates the Al Jazeera Media Network and highlights its impact and development from a single Arabic-language television channel to a global media network.

Qatar Museums presents the exhibition within the framework of the activities “Qatar Creates”, the national cultural initiative that continues its activities throughout the year, which sponsors and promotes cultural activities in Qatar and celebrates its diversity, and links local and international audiences with the creative industries in Qatar. The exhibition also comes within the framework of the cultural year / Qatar - Middle East, North Africa and South Asia 2022/. It is an annual international cultural exchange program that aims to deepen understanding between countries and their peoples.

The exhibition provides an overview of the challenges faced by the Al Jazeera network, and the most prominent stations in its development process since its launch in 1996, and then its expansion from a single channel to a network of five television channels and a number of digital platforms, in addition to shedding light on the success achieved by Al Jazeera over two and a half decades, and highlight the basic principles and standards that it adheres to in its media production.

Ramzan Al-Nuaimi, Acting Executive Director of Corporate Identity and International Communication at Al Jazeera Media Network, expressed his hope that visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the story of Al Jazeera and its media product from all over the world. Launching this project, which sheds light on Al Jazeera's achievements and media influence.

For her part, Anaguim Zayani, curator and director of museum organization for the exhibition, explained that "Discover Al Jazeera" comes within the preparation of the Lusail Museum, and the celebration of a free media voice that emerged from the Arab world, and has become today a pioneer in the media scene at the regional and global levels.

The journey of visitors to the exhibition begins with a section that presents the story of the network’s emergence, starting with writing (the logo) of Al-Jazeera, which shows a dialogue with the designer Hamdi Al-Sharif that he designed it inside a car, the challenges faced by its journalists, and the risks facing media workers, then it explains the news content and documentaries that it produced. The exhibition presents an overview of its expansion in the digital field. The exhibition also highlights the stories and experiences of journalists who carried out the trust of conveying the truth and the news, and raises questions that prompt visitors to think about the impact of global events on people's lives and their diaries.

In the outer courtyard opposite Café 999, the exhibition documents the martyrs of the word who fell in the squares, raising the banner of the honest word and the free and honest news.

It is worth noting that the exhibition "Discover the Island" is one of four exhibitions that make up the Lusail Museum, which is currently being developed by Qatar Museums, and it is a museum that explores ideas and focuses on travel, identity and exchange, and the rest of these exhibitions are: At the Qatar Museums Gallery - Al Riwaq, its display began on October 24 and will continue until April 1, and deals with the unique collection of Lusail Museum holdings that tell stories about the moments of convergence between the various peoples of the countries scattered across the edges of the Indian Ocean.

And the exhibition "Spinning of Love: Weaving the History of Palestine", which will be held at Qatar Museums Gallery - Katara and will continue until January 28, and it is a journey that sails between Palestine through the art of embroidery. The land of Palestine carries an intertwined contemporary history, which is reflected in a narrative that the Lusail Museum seeks to interpret in a more profound way.
