The Qatar International Court participated in the fourth meeting of the Permanent International Forum on Commercial Courts, which was held in Sydney, Australia.
The forum’s work program for this year focused on four main axes: the importance of integrating means of dispute settlement into litigation procedures, the way to deal with the complexities of cases, the contribution of courts to supporting governance and its role in addressing climate change, and the problems of international jurisdiction conflict in international commercial disputes and ways to resolve them. .
The forum aims to enhance judicial cooperation and exchange experiences between commercial courts and their contribution to stimulating foreign investment and providing the legal protection required to support such investments among the courts of the member states of the forum.
One of the most important and prominent initiatives adopted by the forum was the issuance of a collective indicative memorandum for the forum's member courts - which the Qatar International Court contributed to the preparation of its drafting - in order to clarify the mechanisms of judicial cooperation among those courts, especially the foundations of mutual recognition for the implementation of judgments.
Mr. Faisal bin Rashid Al-Sahouti, CEO of the Qatar International Court, stressed the importance of the forum, which this year will be attended by heads of the judiciary and heads of supreme courts from many countries to exchange views, experiences and expertise on how to overcome the challenges facing the commercial courts sector, in addition to learning and benefiting from it. of modern international judicial practices and keeping pace with the latest developments and changes in reality.
He added that the experience of the State of Qatar in activating the role of the specialized judiciary has a distinct resonance in the international commercial judicial arena, as the Qatar International Court has gained a prestigious international reputation in dealing with commercial cases on the local and international arenas, indicating that the specialized commercial courts have played a prominent role in supporting the investment climate. and improving the business environment in the countries that established those courts.
The Permanent International Forum of Commercial Courts was established in 2017 at the invitation of the UK judiciary and held its first meetings in London in the same year, then in New York City in 2018, and then in Singapore in 2020.
The number of member courts of the Forum Currently forty-four commercial courts from different countries of the world. Today, the forum is considered the first international forum concerned with enhancing judicial cooperation between the commercial courts that are members of the forum.
The Qatar International Court was established to enhance the confidence of international financial companies licensed in the Qatar Financial Center in obtaining prompt justice. The court handles investment and commercial disputes, one of which is a company incorporated in the Qatar Financial Center or in the free zones of the country.
