The United Nations Migration Mission in the country issues a report highlighting its programs

Doha, October 06 (QNA) The United Nations Migration Mission in the State of Qatar shed light on its programs and achievements since the mission began practicing its work in Qatar in September 2020, through a photo report (brochure) it issued for this purpose.

The report reviews the achievements of the mission since the start of its work in the country, that is, during a period of nearly two years, and reflects the leading humanitarian role of the State of Qatar. With the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Compact for Migration.

Iman Younis Erekat, head of the International Organization for Migration mission in the State of Qatar, said, in a speech that topped the report, that the mission began its work in the State of Qatar in September 2020, i.e. in the midst of the world's response to the (Covid-19) epidemic, adding that "the goal and vision stemmed from our determination. To support the national agenda of the State of Qatar and contribute to the implementation of international commitments to continue achieving continuous progress in managing migration, for example, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Compact for Migration.We embarked on this initial stage of our work armed and reinforced with the global experiences of the International Organization for Migration, which spanned decades In providing technical support to governments, and our belief that the International Organization for Migration in the State of Qatar will make a real difference, which will reflect positively on society and the country in general.

Erekat considered that the mission's work in Qatar was an important period of time in building trust, exchanging knowledge and joint planning, expressing her pride in the success in building bridges with the Qatari government, and with various segments of Qatari society, as "we established the rules for building partnerships with a number of government and public sector institutions." And the private sector, the media, local charities, academia and diplomatic bodies, as well as fellow United Nations agencies,” expressing her thanks to the government and people of Qatar for the welcome, good reception and open doors that the family of the IOM mission received.

The report - the brochure, tagged / the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Mission in the State of Qatar/ indicates that the organization’s mission in Qatar, in close coordination with government partners, held six training courses for national cadres to enhance public understanding of the rights of migrant workers and support national efforts to combat Trafficking in Human Beings.

More than 172 representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science and the National Human Rights Committee benefited from these training courses.

The mission also organized three closed workshops for partners in the Qatar Fund for Development, Education Above All Foundation, and Qatar Airways to identify potential areas for joint cooperation.

The report shows that, during the mentioned period, the mission signed two grant agreements with the Qatar Fund for Development to support the people most in need of assistance in northwestern Syria and Lebanon. It also did its partnerships with national institutions by concluding two agreements with the Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Charity as implementing partners for social and psychological support services for the evacuees of Afghan citizens.

In addition to the above, the mission carried out public events with a number of local and international partners, where it organized two virtual seminars and a personal public event to celebrate International Women's Day, and a virtual event on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons, highlighting the efforts of the State of Qatar regarding migrant workers during the first celebration One of its kind on the International Migrants Day, which was attended by a group of senior officials, representatives of government institutions, charitable organizations, members of the diplomatic corps and public figures.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the leading intergovernmental agency in the field of migration.
