The State of Qatar won for the first time in its history the membership of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in the third category for the next three years (2023-2025), following the elections that took place yesterday evening within the 41st General Assembly of the organization currently held at its headquarters in Montreal, Canada, with the participation of delegations 171 of the 193 member states of the organization have the right to vote. Qatar achieved a landslide victory in the elections, as it obtained 160 votes to be among the highest countries in the third category, which confirms the country's valuable contributions and efforts in the civil aviation sector.
HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti said: The State of Qatar's victory in the membership of the ICAO Council confirms the state's position and appreciation in international forums at the regional and global levels under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, and also reflects the extent of the countries' confidence Members of the organization have the ability of the State of Qatar to contribute significantly to finding solutions to the challenges facing the aviation industry at the present time and in the coming years. His Excellency added that this confidence came as a result of the great work done by the state in developing the civil aviation sector, which receives vigorous follow-up and unlimited support from the rational government, until this vital sector has become a world-renowned.
His Excellency also indicated that this achievement represents a new stage in the consolidation of the country's leading position in the civil aviation sector globally, and will constitute an incentive to continue the innovation process in the application of international best practices in the field of safety, security, air navigation and environmental sustainability.
The International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal witnessed an intense activity of the Qatari delegation headed by His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, during the period of the 41st General Assembly of the organization, which ends its work on the seventh of this October. His Excellency held a series of meetings with a number of heads and members of delegations Participation and groups representing different regions of the world and heads of regional and international organizations, within the framework of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the State of Qatar and the member states of the organization in a way that contributes to the development of the civil aviation sector.
