New York, September 23 (QNA) The State of Qatar participated in the annual ministerial meeting of the least developed countries, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
In the statement of the State of Qatar to the meeting, His Excellency explained that the Doha work program for the least developed countries for the decade 2022-2031 is of great importance and was the result of concerted efforts and the constructive participation of various parties and partners. He also indicated that the international community, by adopting the Doha Work Program, sent a clear signal to the least developed countries and their people of their commitment to support them in their endeavors to build their capacities, advance their development, help them address existing challenges and overlapping crises, recover from the pandemic, and build more prosperous, inclusive and resilient societies and economies.
He added that we are only a few months away from the convening of the second part of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which the State of Qatar is proud to host in Doha during the period from 5-9 March 2023.
He said that we in Doha have an opportunity, which is available only once every decade, to affirm the political will and redouble efforts to transform the ambitious and enhanced promises and commitments contained in the Doha Work Program, as well as important tools and measures, and translate them into concrete and sustainable actions.
His Excellency expressed his confidence that this conference will be the culmination of a long process that has gained momentum, and will constitute a unique and distinct opportunity to announce global initiatives and partnerships, in a way that contributes to investing the rich opportunities of the least developed countries, and meeting their aspirations towards achieving the desired progress in their economic, social and human development.
He pointed out that the State of Qatar has always been a true strategic partner in responding to needs and challenges, and has a proven track record in the field of partnership and cooperation, all of which constitute a cornerstone of Qatar's policy, and we have undertaken many initiatives and efforts in this field.
He added: Our vision in the State of Qatar regarding the importance of teamwork and cooperation requires us to work tirelessly to ensure the success of the second part of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
