The public affairs department of the U.S. embassy in Qatar offers small grants to support and strengthen cultural relations between America and Qatar through cultural and reciprocal programs that highlight shared values that develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The embassy announced the opening of applications for the small grants program provided by the department of public diplomacy until May 15th. Projects that contribute to the growth of Qatar’s economy and support civil society in Qatar will be given priority and contribute to promoting mutual understanding. The U.S. Embassy successfully implemented several grant programs during the Cultural Year between Qatar and America 2021 and continues in 2022 to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The U.S. Embassy in Qatar is currently implementing several grant programs with individuals and local bodies who have submitted to the 2021 annual program. Ms. Mahnalkashmi Rajakumar, a film producer and member of the Faculty of Journalism at Northwestern University in Qatar, is implementing a training and mentoring program on film production to support the artistic and professional development of 15 young female content makers with a civic mindset. The Arab Youth Climate Movement is implementing an initiative to promote integrated environmental education in society by raising awareness of climate change through campaigns aimed at resource consumption, waste generation and carbon emissions. This is done by developing the first application of its kind developed in the Middle East to measure qatar's home carbon footprint. The team met with U.S. Special Presidential Climate Envoy John Kerry at the Doha 2022 Forum to exchange views on the grant project. Fashion designer Lauren Michelle Morel uses the grant to promote sustainable fashion consumption and raise awareness of the use of sustainable fabrics in traditional American fashion. Lauren also highlights the environmental risks that "fast fashion" poses to communities. She called on the embassy to follow the small grant program on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and @USEmbassyDoha
