Washington, December 18 (QNA) - The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal praised the city of Lusail and its majestic architectural edifice represented in the "Lusail Stadium", which will host the final match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar this evening.

The newspaper said, in a report published on its website, that the city of "Lusail", which was built from scratch over the past 20 years, represents a memorial landmark that embodies Qatar's ambition and urban prosperity, whose effects may extend to other major events after the World Cup final.

She added that the "giant golden-colored stadium" is located in the middle of the vibrant city of Lusail, about 20 km north of the capital, Doha, and includes skyscrapers, a university, wide open streets and a marina for luxury yachts, all of which are wonderfully lit. Noting that 20 years ago, The city of "Lusail" was nothing but a pile of sand. No one expected it to turn into such luxury, "but Qatar was keen to turn the dream into reality."

The newspaper quoted Brian Gannett, the architect who worked on the initial designs for the city, as saying: “There was nothing (in the place of the city in the past) .. and not everyone was completely confident that a project like this would succeed when you drew it .. only 1 in 10 or 20 or even 100 of those things could happen."

The newspaper stated that the necessary designs for the city of Lusail were initially made as part of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to diversify Qatar's economy and make it a leading global player. The city was planned to be a tourist center, but when Qatar won the rights to host the World Cup in 2010, adding a stadium became with a capacity of 89,000 seats, the modern city is a new goal.

She continued, "Now, as Qatar organizes the final of the most watched sporting event in the world, Lusail is a symbol of Qatar's unbridled ambition, rapid modernity, and urban prosperity."

On the other hand, the newspaper praised the wonderful and successful organization of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, saying that it was not punctuated by major operational problems, as the new transport system worked as planned, and Qatar succeeded in accommodating the large influx of foreign visitors who came from far and wide to follow their national teams.

The Qatari organization of the World Cup received great praise from Mr. Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Football Associations, when he said yesterday, Friday, that "Qatar, thanks to all those who participated (in the organization), including the volunteers, succeeded in making this edition the best in the history of the World Cup." .

The newspaper pointed out that "Qatar's ambition in Lusail did not stop at the World Cup, but there are already plans to host other major sporting events, as the city will host knockout matches from the AFC Champions League next season, and the Formula 1 Grand Prix, while Qatar is preparing to host the Asian Cup." Football is also looking forward to hosting the Olympic Games in 2036.
