Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs witnesses the signing of two agreements between the Qatar Fund for Development and UNRWA

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met today with HE the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, who is currently visiting the country.

During the meeting, they reviewed the cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Today, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Qatar Fund for Development witnessed the signing of two agreements between the Fund and UNRWA to provide financial support with a total value of $25 million, including support for the activities of the United Nations over two years, in addition to support for Palestinian refugees in Syria in several sectors, within the framework of the / UNRWA / emergency appeal for the Syrian regional crisis for the year 2021.

The two agreements were signed on the Qatari side by HE Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development, while they were signed by HE Mr. Philip Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Labor Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, on behalf of UNRWA.

The first agreement provided for supporting UNRWA's core resources with an amount of US$ 18 million, with the aim of strengthening the agency's role in protecting the rights of Palestinian refugees.

This agreement contributes to ensuring the agency's continuity.
